Atrial Fibrillation in Endurance Training Athletes: Scoping Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: Moderate regular physical activity is indicated to avoid atrial fibrillation (AF), whereas athletes should be counseled that long-lasting vigorous sports engagement may cause AF, according the 2016 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) recommendations for AF treatment. Exercise and are complex. Objectives: To evaluate relationship between Endurance training in addition starting point/trigger by which Training causes impairment cardiac function considering time intensity training. Materials Methods: We synthesized evidence from articles published PubMed, EMBASE, SciELO databases using their respective Boolean operators. A total 112 original related endurance up year 2023 were reviewed. Results: Our study verified multiples aspects genesis athletes, such as adaptations exercise, disturbances injury biomarkers, sex differences role risk, body composition (height, weight, fitness) pathogenesis. Conclusions: Variations structure (increased thickness size myocardial fibrosis) significant increases vagal tone (sinus bradycardia imbalances sympathetic parasympathetic activation) shorten refractory period shortening induce onset re-entrance mechanisms, serve ectopic triggers can lead AF.

Atrial fibrillation, physical activity and endurance training.

INTRODUCTION Clinical practice and the results of some studies may indicate that physical exercise in the form of endurance training may influence the development of atrial fibrillation (AF). The aim of this paper is to evaluate the scientific background for the hypothesis that there is a connection between physical activity and AF. MATERIAL AND METHOD This paper is a review article based on ...

Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter in athletes.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in clinical practice, with an estimated prevalence of 0.4% to 1% in the general population, increasing with age to 8% in those above 80 years. The recognised risk factors for developing AF include age, structural heart disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus or hyperthyroidism. However, the mechanisms underlying the initiation of AF in pat...

Efficacy of circumferential pulmonary vein ablation of atrial fibrillation in endurance athletes

AIMS Long-term endurance sport practice has been increasingly recognized as a risk factor for lone atrial fibrillation (AF). However, data on the outcome of circumferential pulmonary vein ablation (CPVA) in endurance athletes are scarce. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of CPVA in AF secondary to endurance sport practice. METHODS AND RESULTS Patients submitted to CPVA answere...

Cardiac adaptation to training and decreased training loads in endurance athletes: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION Changes in echocardiographic standard measurements as a consequence of training and detraining in elite or subelite athletes have not been comprehensively studied. METHODS We identified 200 potentially relevant studies from 1966 to June 2006 and eliminated 187 studies that did not fulfil the objectives of the study. We identified 13 studies with echocardiographic assessment of he...
